SPEAK for YOURSELF
What Girls Say about What Girls Need
Girl's Best Friend Foundation (GBF)is happy to announce the publication of SPEAK for YOURSELF: What Girls Say about What Girls Need. The report is based on an intensive, two-year study conducted by girls and about girls. It presents the insights of more than 200 young women in six Illinois communities--12 to 18-year old girls from urban, suburban, and rural areas, representing diverse race, class, and religious backgrounds.
Speak for Yourself girl researchers learned that their peers want to be respected as valuable community members. Girls want to feel emotionally and physically safe in their neighborhoods, programs, and schools, and they want to have a real voice in decisions that affect them. They want adult support as they challenge themselves to learn and grow.
