March for Women's Lives

SES members Sabuwra Baty, Sonja Mixon, Sonja Bugvilionis, Ariel Herman and Jori Daniels all were at the March for Women's Lives in Washington D.C. They marched with the ChoiceUSA youth contingent for part of the March, then ended up getting separated from them only to merge with another, more informal group of youth and their allies! There were some very intense moments, particularly when they were marching along Pennsylvania Avenue and were visually engaging with the anti-choice protesters (and their huge signs of aborted fetuses) – but the SES young women were steadfast in their chants of “pro-choice IS pro-life!”. Here are some excepts from the journaling they did after the March:

“To see so many people (not just women!) standing up for their beliefs was astounding.”

“I actually took part in something historical and I’m not even sixteen yet!”

“I was glad to see men, especially older men at the march. WOOHOO!”

“We made history today...to be in a place where change is made, with [so many] who want change and are marching, in a time when standing up for what you believe in can somehow get censored...it was astounding to see so many people – not just women – standing up for their beliefs...the pro-lifers frightened me, but...they just remind me to keep myself safe and to be responsible. They don’t change my views.”
