Programs we fund
Great girls programs deserve and need financial support, encouragement, and recognition.
Since its creation in 1994 as a private family foundation, Girl's Best Friend Foundation has provided over $5.8 million in grants in support of policies and programs that ensure girls' self determination, power, and well being. Core grants also include an additional 10 percent over and above the grant award to support the evaluation of the project.
Since mid-2002, our grants have focused on metropolitan Chicago. Between 1995 and early 2002, we made grants throughout the state of Illinois.
Current grantees
In fiscal year 2007 (July 1, 2006– June 30, 2023), GBF awarded $1,616,048 in grants. GBF makes core grants twice a year to support organizations and programs focused on gender conscious youth development, leadership, and activism that furthers feminist social change.
